History:

Machu Picchu is an old city of the Inca, built around 1450. It is also well known as the "Last Sanctuary of the Inca" or the "Lost City of the Inca". Machu Picchu (translation: "Old Peak", 2450 m alt.) is bordered by Huayna Picchu (translation: "Young Peak", 2700 m alt.) and surrounded by the Río Urobamba (translation: "Holy River", 2150 m alt. in the valley).
Machu Picchu was lost for a long time - not even the spanish colonists have found this old city. Just in 1911, the american Hiram Bingham III and some indians found the place - overgrown by tropical plants.
